Guided Backpacking Excursions on Isle Royale

Scale the heights of the Greenstone, Feldtmann, or Minong Ridges with our professional guides and visit the secluded inland lakes along your route across Isle Royale. You can choose from a variety of itineraries from four-, six- and ten-day excursions or work with us to put together a custom itinerary to explore the interior of this gem of an Island, the crown jewel of our national park system. Use your own gear or be fitted with our high-end Osprey packs filled with all necessities, including tent, sleeping bag and pad, stove, fuel, water filter, and trekking poles. You bring only your food and clothing and your spirit of adventure. Our experienced guides lead you through your island adventure with the top priority of keeping you safe as you meet the challenges you set for yourself while falling in love with Isle Royale. Prices include one night hotel in Copper Harbor and all ferries in addition to gear.

Mountain Bike Shuttles

Save time and your legs and catch a ride to the top of the trail system on one of their mountain bike shuttles and then take advantage of gravity as you ride back down. Buying a day or weekend pass on Keweenaw Adventure Company’s Downhill Mountain Bike Shuttle allows you to ride as many times as you’d like!  Daily shuttle passes are available every day Memorial Day weekend through mid-October.  Ride your own bike or rent one of from their high-end fleet. Docking Services

The 6th Street dock offers overnight space and seasonal boat docking with electric hookups. It’s in the center of town and within walking distance of just about everything.

Home to a full service marina offering a multiple pier docking area, diesel gas, electricity, water, ice, bathrooms, showers, parking, telephones, and a public boat launch. The marina is administered by Fort Wilkins State Park.

Open Summer Season

When in Copper Harbor be sure to visit the Welcome Center for area information. We are proud of our Welcome Center. It’s full of great info, displays and history as well as being visually appealing!

The Welcome Center is located in the township hall along with the post office. It is attended and open in the summer only. In addition to information, you can find free WiFi as well as fax service during open hours.

When the  Welcome Center is closed, you can still browse numerous brochures available in the lobby 24 hours a day. There are public restrooms in building available around the back of the building.

Copper Harbor became the Gateway to Isle Royale in the 1930s when the first ferry boats began sailing charters to the remote and rugged island wilderness. Our village has become the principal port of departure for visitors to America’s great island national park, currently on the 100-foot ferry the Isle Royale Queen IV. The Queen is a fast, comfortable, and safe ship that makes one of the longest ferry runs across open waters in the United States. The Donald Kilpela family has held the franchise for this national park service since 1971. Crossing time on the Queen is 3 hours and 45 minutes. Conditions on Lake Superior in summer are mostly favorable for enjoyable crossings to the magnificent Isle Royale wilderness.
